Koh Mak Foundationมูลนิธิเกาะหมาก Help us

Koh Mak · Trat · Thailand

Keep Koh Mak a quiet island.

We look after the reef, the beaches, the animals and the people who live here. So the island gets better for them, and never turns into a mass tourism destination.

Why a foundation

An island for the people and animals who live on it

When mass tourism arrives, an island changes fast: bigger hotels, more boats, more waste. The foundation works for the opposite. Fewer, better visits, a cleaner sea, and a good life for everyone who lives on Koh Mak.

What we keepWhat we keep away
Small resorts and family homesHigh rise hotels
Quiet beachesCrowds and noise
A living reef and clear waterPlastic in the sea and on the sand
Dogs and cats looked afterSick animals with nowhere to go
Older people safe at homeLiving alone with no one to call
Island people with good skillsEvery repair waiting for the mainland

Things we already have

Three projects already work on Koh Mak. The foundation gives them a home, steady money and more hands.

Running

Animal clinic

On the campus

Care for the island's dogs and cats, and for the animals people bring in.

  • Check ups and vaccines
  • Neutering, so fewer strays are born
  • Help when an animal is sick or hurt
Running

Coral restoration

In the sea, off the campus

With Coral Gardeners, whose Thailand team works from Coral Pottery on Koh Mak.

  • Small coral pieces grow on ropes in an underwater farm
  • Once big enough, divers plant them on the reef
  • Visitors can learn the work and join a dive
Running

Waste collection and beach cleanups

On the campus

With Trash Hero. Anyone can join a cleanup, visitors too.

  • Regular cleanups on the island's beaches
  • Waste collected and sorted
  • Less plastic coming to the island in the first place

Once the foundation is set up

What comes next

Three projects we start when the foundation is registered and the first gifts arrive.
